Do you ever have those moments when you suddenly start remembering someone or something from the past, that you’d long forgotten, for no apparent reason?
There I was, sat at my computer, checking my emails and listening to something on Spotify when out of nowhere, the following thought struck me:
“Whatever happened to Geneva?”
For the uninitiated (or those who don’t have a clue who I’m on about), Geneva were a Scottish indie band from the late 1990s. They had a couple of top 40 hits, but never seemed to achieve the level of success that they had the potential to get. There was one song of theirs called “Into the Blue”, that I absolutely loved. I had it on a tape that I got from a copy of Smash Hits. It was one of only two songs on that tape that I listened to, Suede’s “Beautiful Ones” being the other (I think) – the rest of the tape was all boyband/girlband/Europop nonsense.
I typed their name in spotify’s searchbar and sure enough, it had their music listed (have I mentioned just how much I love that software?) I clicked on “Into the Blue” and fell in love with the song all over again. After listening to their album “Further” on it I’m even more convinced that they deserved to be bigger than they were.
I even managed to track down the video for “Into the Blue” on Youtube:
