Anyone who knows me knows that I am capable of acts of sheer clumsiness that are actually quite hilarious when I look back at them, no matter how painful or embarrassing they are. This week I managed two such acts, both involving getting something in my eye.
The first happened on Sunday, when I was trying out a mascara that I had just bought. I was applying it to the eyelashes on my right eye when I got distracted and poked myself in the eye with the mascara wand. Now it has to be said, I don’t wear make up much as I often neither have the time or the patience to apply it, but even I didn’t think I would do something as daft as this. I was on my own, so I didn’t feel too embarrassed. Still, my eye did hurt for a few hours afterwards.
The second incident happened at lunchtime. There I was, eating a packet of Salt and Vinegar crisps. All of a sudden, I felt a jagged, very salty and very vinegary piece of crisp in my left eye. I’m guessing that I must have caused a small crisp to jump out of the packet as I was eating them. For those interested to know what a salt and vinegar crisp in the eye feels like – it’s uncomfortable, it burns and it hurts like bloody hell. The last time I had any food stuff near my eye was when I got bubblegum stuck on my eyelid from a not-that-big-really bubble when I was younger. If you want to know what that feels like, it’s cold and your eyelashes feel tingly for hours afterwards.
The way things are going I will probably have a patch over one of my eyes by the time the week is out.
