Back in the day, Bob Hoskins told us that it was good to talk in a series of adverts for BT. While that sentiment is true, it’s a little difficult to do so when there’s nobody around to listen or you’d feel bad about offloading all your thoughts on someone else who’s probably got their own problems to deal with.

That’s the way I’ve been feeling recently.

The last few weeks I’ve had a lot of stuff on my mind. Life stuff. Negative stuff. Stuff that has left me unable to sleep at night for it constantly whirring in my head. Stuff that I shouldn’t have allowed to mount up inside my head. Stuff that makes me feel inadequate and useless. Every now and again I get like this, just like everybody else does and it goes away in a day or two, but this time it’s stuck around for longer. You could call it a case of the January blues, or you could call it me being a whiny miserable cow on her time of the month – except I am not. Whatever it is, it’s something that I find hard to push aside, no matter how much I try to. I could tell my parents, but there’s enough on their plates without them having to worry about me as well. My friends are all scattered in various parts of the country, so I don’t see them as much as any of us would like to.

At this point, I find the Internet good to try and deal with or forget about my problems (mostly the latter, really). Indeed, it is one of the reasons why I like to blog and tweet. However, sometimes I wish that I was able to talk about things with someone face to face, rather than share it all on a computer screen. Yes I know that there is most often a human being on the other end of that twitter conversation, and often I am grateful for that person being there. But sometimes it would be nice if someone was with you, listening to you, who is ready to put a reassuring arm around you and doesn’t mind if you make a damp mess on their shoulder. Granted, it might be difficult for me at first, but it will come easier to me once I know that I have their attention.

Is there anyone out there? Because I’m not quite sure there is.
