Am I a Loser?

Yeah okay, I might be  a  loser.

I love my Nintendo 3DS. I have Pokemon battles with my nephew. I am addicted to Animal Crossing New Leaf and I get upset when one of my villagers leaves (you do get attached to them after a while).

I still like to collect soft toys, especially those of famous characters.

I am still far happier reading comics than newspapers.

I still love watching cartoons, both those from when I was a kid and some of the ones from today.

I see no shame in wearing Spongebob socks, or owning slippers that feature Elmo’s face.

My taste in music might not be 100% as  “highbrow” as yours.

I also tend to find animated meerkats and robots that sell insurance, sofa flogging sloths and now a purple toad that loves Vimto adorably funny.

Some might say, “you need a boyfriend”. I’d have agreed with you at one time, until I realised that men didn’t need me as much as I needed them – not much.

But you know what? I don’t care, because the things that might make me a loser are the very things that I enjoy and make me happy.  Why would you give up the things you enjoy in order to appease others, so long as you’re not harming anyone?  I’d rather embrace my so-called “Loserness” than try to give in to ideas of what someone my age should be and like.

An introduction, of sorts.

As well as writing blogs, I enjoy reading other people’s. One of my favourites is Mark Watson’s blog. As well as being an entertaining read, he also encourages “audience participation” of sorts. In one of his most recent posts, he encouraged readers to post comments telling people a bit about themselves. I posted a comment on that particular entry. I only wrote a few sentences, but even so I spent a long time doing it – thinking of what to say and how to say it, without sounding like too much of an idiot.

It was after doing this I realised that I haven’t really properly introduced myself on here. I have a few lines in the about section, but I’ve always tried to add a bit more. So, inspired by the little exercise on Mark’s site, I decided to use this post to reveal some stuff about me. Not too much stuff, obviously (you never know who’s reading this), but enough to give you a little idea of the person whose blog this is.  I’m also not really a fan of talking about myself and I often get nervous when having to introduce myself in front of huge groups of people. This will be a bit of a challenge, but I’ll try to make a decent job of it.

Anyway, here goes *ahem*:

My name is Lynsey and I am a 29-year-old, short(ish),  left-handed Northern soul (North West England to be precise). Most of my friends and family call me Lyns.  You can too if you wish.

I like music, comedy, meerkats, chocolate,  reading, writing, notebooks, retro TV, photography and the internet, among other things.  I hate rhubarb, bad drivers and snobbery.

My favourite colour is green.

I own a lot of hooded tops. But I am not a hoodie.

Like Tinie Tempah, I’ve never been to Scunthorpe.  Unlike him, I’ve never been to Southampton.

I have a grade two in clarinet – which sounds impressive, until you realise that you can go up to Grade eight. I doubt if I could play it now.

I have a degree in Film, TV and Radio.

David Tennant is my favourite Doctor Who.  I  really like Matt Smith too.

Douglas Adams,  Nick Park and Danny Wallace are among my heroes.

Yes I am single.  I think you might have guessed that already.

And I think I’m going to stop there before I sound like I’m writing for an online dating site.
